About

Jim Klein is currently the Chief Technology Officer for the Las Virgenes Unified School District and formerly Director of Information Services and Technology at Saugus Union School District, a position he held for over seventeen years. Through over two decades of IT experience, Mr. Klein has become widely renowned as an aggressive technology leader, particularly in the areas of open source and social media. Not only does he vigorously pursue technologies that he believes will make a significant difference in the lives of students, teachers, and staff, but he also actively challenges his peers to do the same through dozens conference presentations and sharing of information, tools, and best-practices. Mr. Klein freely gives the fruit of his labor to others, and selflessly offers assistance that drives similar success in their schools and districts. He has written a number of articles for industry magazines, advocates for education technology personally within his state and on capital hill, and serves on a number of national and international committees and panels. Mr Klein has been recognized as a T.H.E. Journal Innovator, NetworkWorld All Star, and a National School Boards Association "20 to watch" educator.

Jim has spoken on a variety of topics at various locations across the United States, including at such prestigious educational institutions as Harvard University and schools of education in the University of California system. He has also been featured at CoSN's Annual School Networking Conference, the ISTE National Education Computing Conference (ISTE/NECC,) the National School Boards Association (NSBA) T+L conference, the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) Ed Tech Industry Summit, the Community College Foundation's TechEd Conference, Iowa and Minnesota State Education Technology Directors Summits, the Georgia Education Technology Conference (GaETC,) the California Education Technology Professionals Associaion (CETPA) Annual Conference, the New York State Association for Computers and Technology in Education (NYSCATE) Leadership Summit, the Red Hat Summit, and a variety of other meetings, webcasts, and events.
